The only goal of the game was scored in the 30th minute by Lyndon Dykes from a penalty. A violent attack by Martin Hinteregger was quickly exposed by the VAR. In return, Austria had no luck with the video referee, shortly before the break, the referee’s whistle remained silent after a foul on Christoph Baumgartner.

As on Saturday against Israel, Austria could not convert a certain playful superiority into goals. 66 percent possession of the ball and 16: 8 shots on goal were statistics that did not help the ÖFB team. The first half started full of energy, with the goal against the vigor noticeably diminished.

F for almost hopeless

In the second half there was the sad climax when goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann only hit the stadium floor while attempting to clear the ground, but also prevented the possible 2-0. Offensively, the players around captain David Alaba bit their teeth at the Scottish defense. Coach Franco Foda seems to be heavily counted after this recently unsuccessful presentation of his team.

The situation in Group F is almost hopeless before the continuation in early October with the away games against the Faroe Islands (2-1 against Moldova) and the flawless leader Denmark (5-0 against Israel) as fourth group for the ÖFB team. First place, Denmark is still without conceding a goal (21: 0), is out of reach for Austria.

Four points are missing on the second Scotland, the direct duel is lost. Third Israel is three points missing, the direct duel is still open, but difficult after the 2: 5 away. The hope for the World Cup is still alive. As a winner in the Nations League, there is the possibility of paving the way to Qatar via the play-off at the end of March 2022.

Austrians step on the gas

Christopher Trimmel, Stefan Ilsanker and Louis Schaub found themselves, in contrast to the badly unsuccessful game in Israel, again in the starting XI nominated by Foda, who this time tried a 4-2-3-1 system. Grillitsch, Ilsanker started as six, before that Schaub should crank in midfield. David Alaba had the left side to himself, Christoph Baumgartner and Marko Arnautovic lurked in front.

The ÖFB-Elf was clearly looking for reparations. From the start she sat down in the opposing half, did not let the Scots hit the ball and tried to get dangerously into the penalty area over both sides. A first shot by Marko Arnautovic in the sixth minute went just wide of Craig Gordon’s goal.

But the Scottish back team was still safe. The fact that the Austrians did not experience a bitter deja vu on Haifa was thanks to Daniel Bachmann, who successfully defused a Lyndon Dykes header in the eighth minute. Christoph Baumgartner, for his part, pulled a shot (16th) just past the second pole.

With hardship against the flow of the game

Apparently Dykes had decided to attack the Austrians only with the elbow first. At first the striker of the English second division side Queens Park Rangers Martin Hinteregger jumped only with the intention of ramming him, shortly afterwards Dykes tried out his ramming technique on Bachmann.

These attacks had nothing to do with British severity; they were aimed purely at intimidation. The Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov left it with a warning. With the Austrians, David Alaba had still engaged his forward gear and started the attacks again and again dynamically. However, this also left large gaps in defense for Scottish counterattacks.

VAR transfers Hinteregger

After about half an hour, the game was dominated by duels, one of which was Hinteregger’s undoing. He was pulling and tugging on Che Adams’ shirt in the penalty area, and with some delay, Referee Kabakov pointed to the penalty spot after studying video. Dykes did not miss the chance to make it 1-0 (30th). This time he defeated Bachmann with a little luck, but legally.

The fans in the stadium fell silent and the Austrian team also had to regroup. Scotland had eight men in their own sixteen and shut the bulkheads. Alaba tried to create danger with flanks, but found no buyers. Stephen Clarke’s team left the space to the opponent and limited themselves to defending.

No means against Scottish concrete

Shortly before the break, referee Kabakow and the VAR team caused further displeasure, as they did not consider a blow by Stephen O’Donnell on the fiver against Baumgartner to be punishable. However, Baumgartner had also caught the Scotsman on the head. With whistles from the audience, the Bulgarian went into the dressing room.

The teams came back to the field unchanged after the break. Apparently Foda still saw no reason for changes. However, the lack of penetration continued in the second half.
Playfulness and patience are lost

The ÖFB team ran out of wit more and more, and the audience also lost patience. After Alaba had hit his umpteenth flank over friend and foe and goalie Bachmann almost injured himself while trying to clear things up because he stepped into the ground without a sharp point, after an hour the first “Foda out” echoed, even if only by a few spectators -Call through the Happel oval.

Bachmann saved in the 68th minute with a parade against the breakthrough O’Donnell at least the 0: 1 intermediate result, the Austrians did not want to succeed anything further. Team boss Foda stood tense on the sidelines, following the action almost motionless. He probably suspected that his future as the ÖFB team boss is uncertain at this score.

Shortly before the break, referee Kabakow and the VAR team caused further displeasure, as they did not consider a blow by Stephen O’Donnell on the fiver against Baumgartner to be punishable.
“Hitler is coming for you!”

“Auschwitz is your home!”

Germany in the 1980s: hooligan groups, often right-wing extremists at the time, chanted such hate chants in which they wanted to send opposing fans to Auschwitz. In England, the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has been repeatedly attacked because its fans were considered Yids, the Yiddish word for Jews. In the Netherlands, the rivalry between the Rotterdam club Feyenoord and Ajax Amsterdam, whose fans call themselves “Super Joden” (Super Jews), has become a hotbed of anti-Semitism.

The most recent example was the move from Steven Berghuis, captain of and fan favorite at Feyenoord, to Dutch champions Ajax. On a graffiti in the city, Berghuis wore the striped uniform of the concentration camp prisoners in the Holocaust and also a yellow star. “Jews always run away,” it said.

“You see a face”

Steven Burger (35) has been Feyenoord’s fan representative for three and a half years. He used to be a season ticket holder and a hardcore fan. Now he is one of the people responsible for the club’s education program, which is intended to counteract anti-Semitic tendencies among Feyenoord fans.

The club wants to encourage fans to think about their behavior instead of just punishing them. Feyenoord supporters caught committing a crime hold talks with Holocaust survivors living in Rotterdam. Burger told DW that they wanted to make the fans understand the scope of their behavior, the effects on individual people, including supporters of their own club: “Suddenly it’s no longer about ‘the Jews’. They see a face,” says Berger and calls it an “eye opener” for many participants.

Education experts get involved

Feyenoord’s program was developed in collaboration with the pedagogical department of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Willem Wagener, who has worked for the facility for 20 years, says the decision to address anti-Semitism in Dutch football was born out of a recognition that anti-Jewish sentiments often extend beyond the stadium. “I researched anti-Semitism in Dutch schools. Surprisingly, more than 50 percent of teachers who reported incidents said they had something to do with football.”

Willem Wagener from the Anne Frank House at the “Changing The Chants” conference in Poland

Feyenoord and the Anne Frank House were among the initiators of the “Changing the Chants” conference, which took place in Oswiecim in Poland. The conference marked the end of a two-year project to combat anti-Semitism in European football.

In addition to panel discussions on combating anti-Semitic tendencies in European football stadiums, the conference also included a visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The 50 or so participants came from the fields of social work, education and journalism, among others.

Borussia Dortmund: an important player

A German club also plays a central role in the “Changing The Chants” initiative: Borussia Dortmund. In the past, the Bundesliga club had to struggle with anti-Semitic tendencies in its own fan base. Although the city is an SPD stronghold, it is also known for its right-wing extremist groups. Many fan and ultra groups of the club consciously distance themselves from racism, which often makes them the target of the right-wing extremist scene in the city.

Daniel Lörcher is the head of the corporate responsibility department at BVB. He has been in charge of the Dortmund education program in recent years. The program calls for fans, club employees and employees of BVB sponsors to visit former concentration camps, with a focus on the city of Dortmund and the Jews who lived in the city before the Holocaust. “It was interesting for us to find out what happened in this area at European level,” he says and calls it “the next logical step” for the club.

Borussia Dortmund has been involved in the fight against anti-Semitism for a long time

In contrast to Feyenoord’s approach, the Dortmund project aims to reach all fans who are interested in the program, and not just those who are banned from the stadium. In the future, both clubs want to implement each other’s ideas in their cities.

Independent fan culture as the key to change

However, at the heart of both approaches is the understanding that the fans and independent fan culture are part of the solution, not the problem. “If I, as a representative of Feyenoord, tried to force something on the fans, it wouldn’t work,” said Steven Berger of Feyenoord. “We want to give them responsibility for the problem without pointing a finger at them.

Wagener agrees. “The only way to change behavior is to speak to the football fans in their own language. When the fans understand that they are hurting some of their own people, it is a mechanism that can motivate them to change.”

For Daniel Lörcher, a former member of an ultra group from Borussia Dortmund, it is important to initiate discussions between the various parts of the club’s fan landscape. “None of this would work without the fans on board.”

“I wouldn’t be here without football”

The example of Fabian, a 26-year-old ultra from Germany, shows what influence football can have on individuals. “In the village where I grew up and in school, racism and anti-Semitism were as good as normal,” he recalls. “There were hardly any objections to that, not even from me.”

At the age of 18 Fabian took his first steps in the ultra scene of his club. The left political attitude of his group meant that he had to deal with the things that had shaped his previous upbringing. “Without football, I would definitely not be here at a conference on anti-Semitism in Auschwitz,” he says. “It opened my eyes. Through the influence of my ultra group, I began to learn and think about what racism and anti-Semitism mean and what they are doing to people.”

These are the report cards of Dutch Grand Prix, 13th round of the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship. On the Zandvoort circuit, 36 years after the last edition, the host Max Verstappen dominates Red Bull with authority. Behind him, again the leader of the Drivers’ classification, are the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

RAIKKONEN – voto 10: If he were an actor he would be a character in the American comedy of the 80s. A weekend with the dead guy, but a lot more fun. At almost 42 years old, in line with his eccentric logic, he decides to say goodbye to F1 at the end of the season and to devote himself to everything else. It will be missing a lot. More than many celebrated pilots. PAPAL

VERSTAKEN ? voto 8: He has a fantastic car, built with intelligence and cunning, which at each appointment allows him to cement his already excited world championship convictions. He gives himself a day to scream, driven by his people, in a triumph of colors and emotions that remain engraved in history. An incredible commercial for the current and sleepy Formula 1. CONQUEROR

GASLY ? voto 7: With patience and stubbornness, when the car supports him adequately, he proves to be a great driver. He has the shots to make his mark, he just lacks a certain regularity. Behind the alien acrobats who compete for the World titles this year, he is often there. For many the best of the normal drivers. LIVELY

KUBICA – vote 6.5: He was perhaps the most talented and unfortunate driver in contemporary Formula 1. Ten years after the accident that forced him to undergo almost twenty surgeries and after losing his dream train, he landed in Ferrari, 644 days after the last time he finds himself on the track like any other rookie. Hurriedly called to replace Raikkonen, positive for Covid. HONORABLE

LECLERC – voto 6: The litany never changes: one race less at the end of the 2021 Championship and a firm look on the year to come. If meteorological cataclysms do not occur, sudden feuds arise between opponents or some power unit jams, Ferrari is not able to even get to the podium. Trivial vote for a team that is anything but ordinary. EMPLOYEE

SAINZ JR. – voto 5.5: The Spaniard, like his teammate, is experiencing a year of hopes and frustrations. He would like to conquer the Moon, he has to look at the stars, but he is forced to float among the clouds. His weekend, apart from the Saturday incident, is almost banal. So much so that he was even overtaken in the photo finish by his friend-rival Alonso. EXHAUSTED

PEREZ – vote 5: While his teammate enchants and dreams of the World Cup, the Mexican, fresh from confirmation in Red Bull also in 2022, runs into a decidedly bizarre weekend. The surprising elimination of Saturday in Q1 and the departure from the pit lane for the engine change, albeit mitigated by the performance in the race, confirm that his career is a performance roller coaster. WAVING

VETTEL – vote 4.5: Not exactly the favorite track for the 4-time world champion. On Saturday he gives him an anonymous 15th position, in the midst of the wildest tussle, while on Sunday he takes on the appearance of a sporting ordeal. It pays for the Aston Martin’s repeated set-up difficulties and the constant growth of fierce competition. SACRIFICATION

LIVELY

You start the season with a six-match trip around the rinks of your opponents, which you start in Chomutov against Kladno. Do you believe that you will overcome this obstacle?

Although we know the difference is to play indoors or outdoors, I don’t mind. I take it that at least the spirit of the team will show how it is composed and how strong it is. The start will be a bit harder for us, but we are looking forward to it starting, because we have been without hockey for a long time. I think that trip will tell a lot about our team, about how ready it is, so I don’t see any problem with that. It’s just like that, we’re reconciled to it and we won’t do anything about it. We will focus on the first match in Chomutov and see.

Kladno has a team full of Canadians, but Jaromír Jágr may not play. Are you sorry?

I don’t know at all, I don’t watch and I don’t watch the rosters of other teams. I’m interested in our team. I don’t even remember the last time I defended Jarda. It’ll be a Friday. We’ll see, leave it open. You never know with him. He wakes up well in the morning and jumps in. I will focus on the team as such and I don’t care if Pleky or Jarda will play.

Do you have any specific memory of fights with this Czech hockey legend?

I always wanted to defend him, but for the first time I managed to play together for the national team. For the first time, I am thinking of the World Cup in Switzerland. I probably played against him too, but I don’t remember. It must have been a long time ago.

You want to win with few goals, for which you need a firm defense and reliable goalkeepers. Are you satisfied with this page?

Not just a solid defense, but a defensive game of the whole team. Holt is so. We have to play with what we have. Be annoying, attack from a counterattack and score a goal. There is no scorer there yet, but maybe someone will work out who will score the goals regularly. Marek Kalus was excellent in preparation, scoring a goal in almost every match. You could carry it over to the season.

It’s coming down this year, so how do you feel about that? Do you deal with the fact that there is something to play for from below?

Of course, it’s in someone’s head, but I don’t think anyone admits it much yet. Now we want to handle the first match well to tap and play. The beginning is always nervous. Plus, when there are spectators in the stands who were missing last year. I (sports director) Roman ?imí?ek also mentioned that this can help someone, hurt others, so we will see how everyone reacts to it.

You go to the season in new jerseys that came from fan designs. Do you like it?

Personally, I really like it, and some of the guys in the cabin talked about it. So far, we are satisfied, we will see if they bring us happiness.

This year’s season will be Olympic, the extra league will also be played during the Olympics. Where do you plan to be at that time? In Beijing or Ostrava?

Some contact has already taken place there, but unfortunately I have not even answered yet, because I do not plan to go to the Olympics. And now that I found out that the NHL guys were going there, I dropped it altogether. I have no plans.

Dhe debate was tough, the tone sharp – the presumably last session of the Bundestag before the election turned into an exchange of blows between the MPs. This Tuesday, they should decide on the 30 billion euro fund for the victims of the flood disaster in western Germany in mid-July. Which was undisputed among all factions.

However, the coalition factions CDU / CSU and SPD had linked the decision on the fund to the changes to the Infection Protection Act proposed by the grand coalition. In the end, the MPs could only vote on a legislative package on both issues. Anyone who wanted to say yes to aid to flood victims ultimately had to agree to the amendment to the Infection Protection Act. This is what happened: all parliamentary groups agreed; the AfD abstained.

The action unanimously enraged the opposition. Because the change in the Infection Protection Act is highly controversial. The FDP would not agree to her alone, her MP Wolfgang Kubicki made clear. ?The government leaves us in the dark as to when the existing state of emergency will end and normality will be restored. The massive restrictions on fundamental rights can no longer be justified, ?said the Bundestag Vice President.

After the vote, Kubicki made a personal statement in writing: “The fact that the coalition members want to exploit the absolute emergency of the flood disaster to gain political ground in order to put the opposition factions under moral pressure to also agree to the amendment to the Infection Protection Act shows that moral standards have been lost.”

On this point, even left parliamentary group vice Gesine Lötzsch agreed with him. Greens parliamentary deputy Oliver Krischer called it “absurd” to combine flood relief and protection against infection. The AfD MP Detlev Spangenberg criticized the aim of forcing the opposition to agree to laws that they would otherwise refuse.

The core of the amendments to the Infection Protection Act is not in itself a cause for concern, but rather follows the suggestions of many scientists. In the future, it will no longer just be the incidence values ??of 35, 50 and 100 that will determine whether and which measures must be taken to contain the corona pandemic. In addition, the number of corona patients admitted to the clinics per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, the hospitalization rate, is an ?essential benchmark?. ?Other indicators? such as the number of new infections, the available intensive care capacities and the number of people vaccinated are also taken into account.

What bothers the opposition now, apart from the procedure, is the passage that in future the federal states will be able to determine where critical threshold values ??are. The Greens fear that a ?patchwork of regulations? will now be created. The Union and the SPD, on the other hand, find that regional outbreaks of infection require regional assessments and instruments to contain them.

What the opposition, above all the FDP or AfD, but above all irritates: They see the containment instruments as a whole as no longer necessary. On the basis of the amendment, however, the policy of restricting fundamental rights could be continued under other provisions.

?We are still in the middle of the pandemic. There will no longer be nationwide thresholds; the federal states will be able to set them in the future. These regulations are balanced, necessary and correct, ?said Sabine Dittmar, the health policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group, defending the amendment to the Infection Protection Act.

It was the Social Democrats who had pushed these changes and wanted to accelerate them. The SPD passed the anger of the opposition over the parliamentary procedure to the Union: It was the CDU and CSU – above all the Chancellery – that opposed any amendment to the Infection Protection Act that the SPD had been calling for since November 2020.

Finally, the Stuttgart player in the penalty area puts Angelo Stiller in the limelight, who shoots unrestricted from 16 meters and hits the lower right corner.

Numerous players celebrated their first game in Stefan Kuntz’s team against San Marino. The focus was particularly on Youssoufa Moukoko, who at 16 years and 286 days rose to become the youngest German U-21 player in history. The Dortmund immediately scored two goals against the football dwarf. The other goalscorers were Jonathan Burkardt, Tom Krauss and Jamie Leweling. Against the Latvians, the task for the DFB selection should be at least a little more difficult. “That is definitely level two, but also a realistic step to grow as a team,” said assistant coach Daniel Niedzkowski.
