We are no longer in the “accessibility” area, so we are less visible than the previous editions. It will be more difficult to find us. Will this penalize us? We will take stock on Friday evening since the show was shortened by one day. Around us, there are a lot of stands available. The large groups not coming, the small subcontractors who came to pick them up are not there either. Visitors and the curious are not there either.
Nvidia AI Enterprise is a set of comprehensive AI solutions. This includes software to clean the data, prepare it, perform neural network training, convert the model to a more efficient form for inference, and deploy it to an inference server. In addition, the Nvidia AI software suite includes a GPU, a DPU (data processing unit), accelerated network support for Kubernetes (the native cloud deployment layer shown in the diagram below) as well as that support for shared terminals on VMware vSphere with Tanzu. Tanzu Basic allows you to run it and manage Kubernetes in vSphere.

Nvidia’s LaunchPad trial program offers AI and data science teams free access for one trial to the full AI Enterprise stack running on a private computing infrastructure. It also facilitates access to Nvidia experts and training modules. Nvidia AI Enterprise is an attempt to take the training and deployment of AI models out of the realm of academic research and larger tech companies. While the latter already have doctoral-level data scientists and GPU-filled data centers, ordinary businesses that need to apply AI for operations, product development, marketing, human resources and other areas. LaunchPad is a free way for these companies to give their IT administrators and AI practitioners hands-on experience with the AI ??Enterprise stack on supported hardware. The most common alternative to Nvidia AI Enterprise and LaunchPad is to use GPUs (and other model training accelerators, such as TPUs and FPGAs) and AI software available from hyperscale cloud providers, combined with courses, models and labs provided by the cloud providers and open source communities of the AI ??framework.

What’s in Nvidia AI Enterprise

Nvidia AI Enterprise provides an integrated infrastructure layer for the development and deployment of AI solutions. It includes pre-trained models, GPU compatible software for data preparation (RAPIDS), GPU compatible deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, software to convert models into a more efficient form for the inference (TensorRT) and a scalable inference server (Triton).

A library of pre-trained models is available through Nvidia’s NGC catalog for use with the Nvidia AI Enterprise software suite; these models can be refined on your datasets using its TensorFlow containers, for example. The deep learning frameworks provided, although based on their open source versions, have been optimized for Nvidia GPUs.

Nvidia AI Enterprise via the LaunchPad program

Nvidia has been talked about a lot regarding DGX systems, which feature four to 16 A100 GPUs in a variety of form factors, ranging from a tower workgroup appliance to rack systems designed for use in data centers. While the company is still committed to DGX for large installations, as part of the LaunchPad program, the company has assembled smaller 1U to 2U rackmount systems with base servers based on two Intel Xeon Gold 6354 processors, one only Nvidia T4 or A30 GPU, and Nvidia DPU (data processing units). Nine Equinix colocation regions around the world each with 20 such rack-mounted servers are qualified by Nvidia under this program.

Nvidia recommends the same systems for enterprise deployments of Nvidia AI Enterprise. These systems are available for hire or hire in addition to purchase.

Getting started with Nvidia AI Enterprise

Nvidia offers three different trial programs to help customers get started with Nvidia AI Enterprise. For AI practitioners who just want to get their feet wet, there’s a trial demo that includes predicting NYC taxi fares and answering BERT questions in TensorFlow. One hour of set-up is necessary for access limited to 48 hours. The standard test requires 8 hours of implementation. In this mode LaunchPad is slightly more fleshed out to accompany AI practitioners and IT staff with access to systems for two weeks with an optional extension to one month.

The third trial program is a 90-day on-site assessment sufficient to complete a PoC. But in this case the customer must provide (or rent) an Nvidia certified system with VMware vSphere 7 u2 (or later version), to benefit from free evaluation licenses.

Nvidia LaunchPad Demo for IT Administrators

Since I’m more interested in datascience than IT administration, I just watched a demo of the hands-on administration lab first and then got my hands on it. The first screenshot below shows the start of the lab instructions; the second displays a VMware vSphere Client web interface page. According to Nvidia, most of the IT administrators they train are already familiar with vSphere and Windows, but are less familiar with Ubuntu Linux.

I spent most of the day browsing the LaunchPad Lab for AI Practitioners, which comes mostly as a Jupyter notebook. The Nvidia teams told me this is a level 400 tutorial; it certainly would have been if I had to write the code myself. As it was, all code was already written, there was a basic BERT model trained to refine, and all training and test data for the fit was provided by SQuAD (Stanford Question Answering Dataset).

The server GPU A30 that came with the LaunchPad trained when I got to the fine-tuning step, which took 97 minutes. Without the GPU, it would have taken much longer. Training the BERT model from scratch, for example, Wikipedia content, takes a lot of effort involving many GPUs over a long period of time (probably weeks).

The balance sheet

Overall, Nvidia AI Enterprise is a great hardware / software package for solving AI issues, and LaunchPad is a handy way to get started with Nvidia AI Enterprise. I was struck by how the deep learning software takes advantage of the latest innovations in Ampere GPUs, such as mixed precision arithmetic and tensor cores. I noticed how much better the experience was trying the Nvidia AI Enterprise hands-on labs on the Nvidia server instance than other experiences I had running TensorFlow and PyTorch examples on my own hardware and on cloud virtual machines and AI services.

All major public clouds offer access to Nvidia GPUs, as well as TPUs (Google), FPGAs (Azure) and custom accelerators such as Habana Gaudi chips for training (on AWS EC2 DL1 instances) and chips AWS Inferentia for inference (on Amazon EC2 Inf1 instances). You can even access TPUs and GPUs for free in Google Colab. Cloud providers also have versions of TensorFlow, PyTorch, and other frameworks optimized for their clouds.

Assuming you can access Nvidia LaunchPad for Nvidia AI Enterprise and test it successfully, your next step, if you want to continue, should probably be to set up a proof of concept for a high value AI application. for your business, with buy-in and support from top management. You can then rent a small Nvidia certified server with an Ampere-class GPU and take advantage of Nvidia’s 90-day free trial license for Nvidia AI Enterprise to accomplish the POC with minimal cost and risk. It’s your turn !

The LaunchPad trial program puts it all out for free.

Servers supporting LaunchPad and Nvidia AI Enterprise are varied, where the Dell R750s but those from other manufacturers may also be quite suitable. (credit: Nvidia)

He granted the World an interview on the technological turning point of his company.

You were not at the Munich Motor Show in September 2021, you are, on the other hand, at CES in Las Vegas. Why ?

We can see that in the development of companies like ours, the technological dimension is now major. The evolution of regulations, the evolution of uses mean that if we do not put technology at the top of our priorities, we are marginalized. The presence at CES of Stellantis, very clear, very visible, was maintained despite the abandonment of some of our competitors. This reflects the fact that we are becoming a technological automotive company, that is, one that puts technology at the top of its priorities. And it is a desire expressed by our own employees of the 35-45 generation, who tell us that we must take this turn to high-tech faster and harder.

What does the partnership with Amazon do for you?

These are actually four partnerships. We first buy a fairly standard cloud service, with data storage and processing. Third element: we have decided – in a company which employs 30,000 engineers – to create a software university. We will train 1,000 people there per year; traditional engineers in our industry who will become, on a voluntary basis, IT specialists who will have followed a very specialized course. Amazon will help us train them.

Olivier Thévenet, manager of the company OCT Fusion, came to inform the 5th year students about the real opportunities offered by the building sector.

Hear an encouraging message and interact with a company. This Friday, January 7, 2022, the 77 5th year students (G2-G3 and G4) of the Center College had the opportunity to understand that the building trades offer a varied activity and guarantee an evolving career, with desire.
Think about a future internship, take an interest in training and have a different perspective on these professions.
That was the aim of this meeting, scheduled within the framework of the Forecast Management of Jobs and Territorial Skills supported by the AGIRE association. It was a question of giving the envy to audiences in search of direction and to enhance the image of this sector, vector of jobs.

It is Olivier Thévenet, manager of the OCT FUSION company (formerly OCT-Vailleau), but also a former student of the Center college, whose mission was to convince, if not at least to inform students about the real opportunities in this sector.
Thanks to the open-mindedness and willingness of Corinne Cometti Principal of the college and her teachers, she was able to meet with 5th graders in the morning before continuing the discussions in the afternoon with a group of volunteers from 4th and 3rd.
Olivier Thévenet explained how he had climbed the ranks to become a business manager, then he detailed all the trades related to the building world: electrician, tiler, carpenter, mason, plumber … by explaining that it was necessary above all else: want to work and do such a job.
?You are young and in the projection, I am here to make you want, I have always had the desire! He said addressing the students. It was then a question of experience and how it could be obtained: by studying and learning about the profession and especially by practicing.
Respect for the environment, recognition, craftsmanship, the role of buildings in France, and sought-after trades such as stonemasons? This is all that the company manager explained before asking students who had just listened to it, what they would like to do for a job in the building industry.
The responses were virtually identical in all three 5th grade classes, with a large proportion of architects, painters and electricians.
Already carried out in the territory thanks to the companies involved in the GPECT, the experimentation of this type of meetings set up by AGIRE and the Principals of the colleges, had made it possible to inform the students of 4th mainly, in Génelard, Montceau and Saint- Vallier.
These meeting actions take place in parallel with the screening of the film ?Meeting the building and our territory?, in which the company is a player. This film is available for viewing from AGIRE’s YOUTUBE page.

The very strong increase in cases of Covid-19 in France from the school holidays causes an avalanche of sick leave at Center Services Belfort, a company that offers home help throughout the department.

“12 of my 50 employees are on sick leave at the moment“, explains Sandrine Perrin, the business manager, phone stuck to the ear since the opening of her office on avenue Jean Jaurès in Belfort.
This forces him to organize himself every morning, in the face of this upsurge in stoppages, since around December.

We recall former candidates to fill the gaps in the schedule

The business manager receives calls every day from her employees, who tell her that they are in contact, sick, and that in all cases they must isolate themselves because of the Covid-19. Eyes on her computer and her schedule, Sandrine Perrin stares at the red boxes, which accumulate: “Look, all the red there are cancellations, just this morning I have 1, 2, 3, 4 …. 8! We replaced girls who had to go to clients and today, the replacement is sick!“blows the business manager.

Sandrine Perrin is struggling to find solutions, and for that, she must urgently call back the candidates she saw last month to ask them if they are available. “Hello, you were interviewed, do you have anything planned at the moment?“She asks a young woman on the phone. Unfortunately, the candidate has accepted a temporary assignment elsewhere.

The Covid lowers turnover

Because of the multiplication of work stoppages in her company, Sandrine Perrin works a lot more, it takes a lot of time to constantly redo the schedules and “it adds stress“, she admits.

The incessant replacements tire some customers, who, tired, simply decide to look elsewhere, “when we call them and we tell them “the girl who was to come to your house to do the housework is sick, so you will finally have the replacement of the replacement”, we answer you “it is too much, I am breaking the contract“, says Sandrine Perrin, who notes thatin December, she lost 24 clients.

Customer losses added to services not provided, the business manager believes that the Covid-19 has already cost 30% of its turnover in December. “Since the start of the year, we are at around 40%“, she slips.

How the new management of Pyram wants to relaunch this industrial flagship of Cantal

Faced with supply difficulties last year (melamine panels, laminate sheets, hardware, etc.), Pyram managed to control its delivery times “without ever exceeding eight weeks when some of our competitors reached sixteen weeks. We were looking for market shares thanks to this reactivity ?.

Pyram regains its standing
Pyram relies on one hundred partner distributors, around twenty more than in 2018, mainly located in western and central France. ?We want to find new partners and customers, where we have little or no presence, in the South-East and in Île-de-France. This is a development axis for this year, ?announces the 36-year-old entrepreneur from the Nantes region, who has a sales force of six people.

– Jean-Philippe Sourice has planned an investment of 1.5 million euros in the Vic-sur-Cère plant by 2024. This envelope will concern the acquisition of machines, partly for machining. “We have to go back to 2015-2016 to find such a level of investment,” said the leader. In order to bring added value to its workshops, Pyram had invested since its recovery, in “a machine for mixing the paints ourselves, an activity that we had previously subcontracted”.?It is our customers who make Pyram famous through word of mouth. We offer a very comprehensive offer, with a multitude of possibilities for facades and boxes. We are in the capacity to respond to all of our clients’ projects, ?says the manager.

Behind the two heavyweights in the sector, Schmidt and Mobalpa, Pyram is positioned in the leading pack and stands out for the quality of its products, the personalization and the design of its models. The company has returned to its fundamentals and has strengthened its workforce, which has gone from seventy-eight employees after the PSE to ninety-two today. ?There is an attachment of customers to Pyram just like an attachment of employees to their company. Me the first. I am proud of this nugget, of this industrial flagship through the quality of its products and its anchoring in a mountain environment. “

Great prospects
The Cantalian specialist in kitchen and bathroom furniture sees the future with serenity. Jean-Philippe Sourice expects a maintenance or a slight decrease in turnover this year. ?I see 2022 very optimistically, the kitchen market remains growing, between 3 and 4%. Unlike in Germany, the fitted and equipped kitchen in French households is only 70 to 75%. We therefore still have very good prospects. Pyram, at the bottom of the wave in 2018, has found the keys to the economic rebound to surf the wave of renewed dynamism today.

According to a new report from Zapata Computing, a software developer for quantum computing, 69% of business executives surveyed are looking at how quantum computing can benefit their business.

The study interviewed 300 CIOs, CTOs and “other senior VPs and above” in global companies with annual sales exceeding $ 250 million. It shows that the vast majority of them have already started to take an interest in quantum computing, with 74% of them believing that companies “will fall behind” if they do not exploit it.

The driving force behind this positive sentiment is the belief that quantum technology could offer a competitive advantage. 41% of those surveyed believe that it will have a positive impact on the performance of their company within two years. A smaller proportion (12%) think they have already benefited from it or will benefit from it in a year.

Supply chain expectations

When it comes to areas where these benefits are most likely to emerge, machine learning and data analytics seem to be the most common targets, with 71% of those surveyed specifically stating that they want to apply quantum technology. to these areas. In addition, the transport sector is the one that seems the most eager to integrate quantum technologies: 63% of transport company executives say that their organizations are already integrating quantum technologies into their infrastructures. The report notes that this enthusiasm is likely driven by the hope that quantum computing will help solve current global supply chain problems and logistical bottlenecks.

While the majority of those surveyed seem enthusiastic about the promises of quantum technology, nearly half of them agree that this technology is complex, with integration into existing systems seen as the “main obstacle to technology. ‘adoption of quantum technology’.

Cost also plays a big role, as 28% of those polled said their company’s budget for quantum computing had already exceeded $ 1 million.

Of all the variables in the survey, the one on which most respondents agree is the need for outside help to adopt quantum computing technology. Indeed, 96% of them said they would need a relationship with a trusted quantum computing vendor to be successful. That said, 73% fear being locked into such a relationship, while 47% are ?very or extremely? concerned about the outcome.
