In return, the children do some agricultural or household chores. “I know young girls who have fallen in with very decent people”, assures Julienne, 16 years old. Far from the big cities, a business has been set up in the north of Benin, but also in the departments of Couffo and Mono (southwest). “The system is organized from touts and matchmakers who roam the villages in search of cheap labor”, explains Florentin Kinhoueyito, secretary general of the NGO Amour et Bien-être, which leads various actions in favor of Beninese youth: ?They give parents a sum of around 30,000 CFA francs [46 euros] to bait them. Criticized on the right and on the left

If the majority has managed to preserve its unity on this highly flammable subject overall, right and left have fought the text for different reasons. The Socialist Party, which voted against with La France insoumise and the communists, notably called it “Missed appointment with the Republic”.
