The Wimbledon power station sounds like it hasn’t been in a long time. Exactly, you have to rewind to July 14, two years ago to find a similar frame, with the bleachers of the Center Court overflowing and colorful, one hundred percent. Then, Novak Djokovic gave a coup in Roger Federer’s house, snatching from the Swiss what would have meant his 21st great, and cutting differences in the great historic career; even and everything, it was a 20-16 favorable to Basel. Today, however, the story is quite different. Nole (6-2, 6-4 and 6-2 to Cristian Garín) is just one trophy away from the record shared by Federer and Rafael Nadal, and sharpens his fangs in a setting that he adored as a child and inspired him: he wanted to be Pete Sampras.

During the summers, the Serbian kept an eye on television to register in his mind each and every one of the movements of the American, one of the icons of the nineties – 14 greats, now 49 years – and consummate specialist on the lawn. Sampras performed in the central London as a fencer with his foil, and closed his career with an overwhelming percentage on the green of the central: 63 wins and only 7 losses; that is, with a 90% success rate. Throughout his career, the American signed extraordinary numbers on grass ?83.5% in total, 101-20?, from which Djokovic is not far at all. Seven titles raised his idol in La Catedral, and five leads him, aspiring this week to a sixth.

If it is crowned next Sunday, Nole would link the third in a row. A merit that has only been achieved at Wimbledon by Sampras himself (from 1993 to 1995 and four from 97 to 200), Federer (five from 2003 to 2007) and previously the Swede Björn Borg (from 76 to 80). With all of them the Serbian rubs shoulders, who has nothing to envy the greatest historical dominators of the surface despite being traditionally designated as a hard court tennis player. Without going any further, its average on grass is 84.6% (88.3% in the major English), slightly higher than that displayed on cement (84.4%). And, in the case of beating Marton Fucsovics in the quarterfinals, he would already achieve a centennial victory (99-18).

He is at the height, then, of experts such as John McEnroe (83.5% in the tournament, 85.8% in the global), Federer (88.9% and 87.2%) Borg (88.9% and 83 , 7%), Jimmy Connors (82.3% and 82.8%) or Boris Becker (83.7% and 82.3%), and above other players who have shone on the surface such as Andy Murray (85 , 1% and 83.1%) or Nadal (81.5% and 78%), both two-time champions at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

This edition, the number one of the ATP transits with military step by frame. Heading to the quarterfinals, he has only given up one set and 41 games; In other words, the same concession he made in 2011, when he raised his first glass at La Catedral. He only made a better run until that season in 2018, when he gave up 35 games and also one set. “I think I delivered a stronger performance today than the other day [contra Denis Kudla], from the first point to the last. I am particularly happy. I have managed to serve well, and when the service works for me I gain a lot of confidence. I have used the court well ?, he said satisfied after beating the nervous Garín, before Federer reduced the Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the last turn (7-5, 6-4 and 6-2).

?I understand that most support the underdog, you have to handle it and accept it. The most important thing is to focus. There are sites where they support you more and others where less, it depends on who you play against. But today has been fantastic, they have supported me. I felt an incredible atmosphere, “he said in reference to the packed crowd, given that the organization had given the green light the day before to sell all tickets until the end of the event. “Thank you for reminding me, it is always good to know these types of statistics,” he thanked when they reminded him that he already has more appearances in the quarterfinals of the tournament – in 11 of the last 12 editions – than the German Becker, and that he is the second male player after Federer who reaches this round 50 times in the Grand Slams.

Chameleonic like few others, Nole has the desire to win absolutely everything. He is only three steps away from his 20th big, and thus equals the other two giants, although he tries to abstract himself from the permanent debate about who is the best of all time: ?I don’t allow myself to think about it too much.
The improved algorithm path planning algorithm found successful paths three times as often as standard algorithms, while needing much less processing time.

A new algorithm speeds up path planning for robots that use arm-like appendages to maintain balance on treacherous terrain such as disaster areas or construction sites, U-M researchers have shown. The improved path planning algorithm found successful paths three times as often as standard algorithms, while needing much less processing time.

?In a collapsed building or on very rough terrain, a robot won?t always be able to balance itself and move forward with just its feet,? said Dmitry Berenson, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and core faculty at the Robotics Institute.

?You need new algorithms to figure out where to put both feet and hands. You need to coordinate all these limbs together to maintain stability, and what that boils down to is a very difficult problem.?

The research enables robots to determine how difficult the terrain is before calculating a successful path forward, which might include bracing on the wall with one or two hands while taking the next step forward.

?First, we used machine learning to train the robot on the different ways it can place its hands and feet to maintain balance and make progress,? said Yu-Chi Lin, recent robotics Ph.D. graduate and software engineer at Nuro Inc. ?Then, when placed in a new, complex environment, the robot can use what it learned to determine how traversable a path is, allowing it to find a path to the goal much faster.?

However, even when using this traversability estimate, it is still time-consuming to plan a long path using traditional planning algorithms.

?If we tried to find all the hand and foot locations over a long path, it would take a very long time,? Berenson said.

So, the team used a ?divide-and-conquer? approach, splitting a path into tough-to-traverse sections, where they can apply their learning-based method, and easier-to-traverse sections, where a simpler path planning method works better.

?That sounds simple, but it?s really hard to know how to split up that problem correctly, and which planning method to use for each segment,? Lin said.

To do this, they need a geometric model of the entire environment. This could be achieved in practice with a flying drone that scouts ahead of the robot.

In a virtual experiment with a humanoid robot in a corridor of rubble, the team?s method outperformed previous methods in both success and total time to plan ? important when quick action is needed in disaster scenarios. Specifically, over 50 trials, their method reached the goal 84% of the time compared to 26% for the basic path planner, and took just over two minutes to plan compared to over three minutes for the basic path planner.

The team also showcased their method?s ability to work on a real world, mobile manipulator ? a wheeled robot with a torso and two arms. With the base of the robot placed on a steep ramp, it had to use its ?hands? to brace itself on an uneven surface as it moved. The robot utilized the team?s method to plan a path in just over a tenth of a second, compared to over 3.5 seconds with the basic path planner.

In future work, the team hopes to incorporate dynamically stable motion, similar to the natural movement of humans and animals, which would free the robot from having to be constantly in balance, and could improve its speed of movement.

The paper describing the work was published in Autonomous Robots. Funding for the research was provided by the Office of Naval Research (N00014-17-1-2050).

The incredible Phoenix ride ends in San Francisco. Golden State takes revenge for Tuesday’s defeat, regains its best NBA record (19 won and 3 lost) and with Chase Center’s 118-96 puts an end to the Suns’ winning streak that lasted 18 games, the longest in the history of the franchise. Too heavy the absence of Devin Booker, resting for the second match in a row with a problem in his left hamstring, not to suffer against a team like the Warriors, who learned from Tuesday’s mistakes and turned around Steph Curry , back decisive (23 points with 6 triples) after 3/14 of the first act. Golden State and Phoenix have confirmed that they are the two best NBA teams seen so far: the third challenge of the season, included in the rich NBA Christmas menu, still promises sparks. With the possible addition of the return of Klay Thompson, expected for over two years.

Golden State won because it is so much more than just Curry. Steph bit with 23 points and 6 triples on target (ousting Ray Allen from the throne of career triples king is a mission to be completed in the next two weeks), with Phoenix unable to limit him as he did in the first game. The Warriors, however, are a fantastic collective, capable of making a difference in defense (Suns held at 38.4%) and finding the right contribution from everyone. Draymond Green was the usual all-rounder (9 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 6 steals and 3 blocks), Andrew Wiggins added to 19 points an extraordinary defense over Chris Paul, the bench produced 54 points, with Gary Payton II again. protagonist (19 points) and Juan Toscano-Anderson (17) who takes the best play of the match with a devastating dunk in the first quarter. The motto of the unbeatable Warriors of the three titles in 5 years was ?Strength in Numbers?, strength is in numbers: depth is the winning card for this team too.
Phoenix (19-4) loses the first game since October 27 because it pays for the very difficult evening of the attack, never able to break through the Warriors wall. Chris Paul, well caged by Wiggins, tried to conduct the orchestra, but was unable to make the most of DeAndre Ayton (23 points), the Suns’ only effective weapon near the basket, or to trigger the shooters. Coach Wiliams would have needed the best Mikail Bridges, but the defensive winger sprained his right little finger at the end of the first quarter and when he returned he was unable to be himself. With Landry Shamet (9 points) not up to the impossible task of replacing Booker in the quintet, the bench also flopped, being destroyed by the confrontation with the opponent and not finding the scorer it would need: Cameron Payne played one of the his worst games of the year (7 points and 3/17 shooting), JaVale McGee was used too little (just 9 ‘for 6 points and 7 rebounds). The Suns knew full well that the series would have to end sooner or later: losing in direct confrontation with the Warriors is a new reminder of what it takes to be the best.

Phoenix resists Golden State’s first shove, which opens the second quarter by touching 34-21, mending up to 51-48 of the interval. Curry signs the 69-56 Warriors at 7’46 “from the third siren, the Suns put the next 6 points but go to the mat before the fourth ends, with The Love’s son who at 30” from the third siren puts the 80- 66 for the hosts. Booker or the best Paul would be needed for the comeback, but Phoenix fails to break through and when Toscano-Anderson crushes 97-79 on the counterattack with 6’38 “to play, the match has been virtually in the safe for a while.

After the European Championships in Bari, the national team takes stock of what has been the continental review of surprises: with a gold and two bronzes, Italy is the second strongest team in the continent after Russia, on equal medals with Spain. . Vito Dell’Aquila, winning the title in the -58 kg, Simone Alessio and Roberto Botta, with the third place respectively in the -80 kg and +80 kg, thought of the Italian success: “A booty that goes above all expectations – comments the Technical Director Claudio Nolano -. Satisfied with the boys, while we will have to continue working more on the girls. We are focused on Tokyo 2020, but the search for talent must not be interrupted “.

The race

?

The positive balance does not stop only with the medalists, but also with the organization of the race, an absolute first for Bari which has excellently hosted the continental event: “We had more than luck, the honor of being able to have this competition at home thanks to Fita which has acquired value and credibility in the eyes of the whole world – continues Nolano -. Obviously this has led to the downside, that is the duty to present a team up to the level of the event and at the same time the expectation of results that bode well towards Tokyo 2020. The European Championships were difficult, having replaced the European Games of Minsk where taekwondo was not present, many of the strongest athletes were waiting for this competition to capitalize on the points: there were 40 up for grabs that could weigh on the ranking, so the Olympic categories were crowded with champions “.

The medalists

?

Out of five categories, there were three blue medals that brought to light the great technical work of recent years: ?What these results meant for us is inexplicable, as far as the men’s categories are concerned, the sacrifices have paid off. Vito Dell’Aquila is already looking to the future, with this title and the 40 points he has earned he will arrive at the Grand Prix Final in December much more relaxed: he is currently in sixth place in the ranking and already virtually qualified, but after the Europeans we are even more serene in vision of the direct pass for Tokyo 2020. With Simone, World Champion of -74 kg, I am happy to have taken the risk of the category change by focusing on the Olympic -80 kg, on the other hand I had to “sacrifice” Roberto by making him move to heavyweight : he faced giants of 10/20 kg more than him and beat the reigning Olympic champion in the quarterfinals, this is a great satisfaction for all the staff because it means that the boys are ready for anything with a spirit of sacrifice and able to grasp the opportunity without making mistakes. I am happy to be spoiled for choice between the two of them, but surely now it will be up to Roberto to make a choice: take the +80 kg motorway or continue to play in the same category as Simone “.

Azzurri

?

?To conclude the men’s categories, Gabriele Caulo came from an injury, while Simone Crescenzi was unable to prepare the race in the best possible way, this is to say that I am convinced that in another situation they could have reached higher. The girls, on the other hand, are the sore point, we are still far from the level we have seen in the categories. The only one who has been up to it is Martina Corelli, and she has been for a couple of races now, which is why the alarm is triggered precisely for this: losing to the quarter measure, one realizes that probably not only the physical preparation, but also mental preparation. More generally, the girls are not completely ready yet so, having still a few months available before the qualifying tournament, we have to go back to work hard, leaving the door open to all those who are in the national team: we need anyone who has the right bite “. With the new year around the corner, we are getting more and more into the heart of the Olympic season. For some time now, the eyes have been focused solely on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but today even more attention is being paid to the details: “The national team is turning all its attention to those few guys who have the best chances of qualifying, but at the same time we must avoiding mistakes made in the past, that is, neglecting the resources of young children. We must continue to grow that nursery that led us to have blue athletes of 2000/2001 and, as a ‘veteran’ a Roberto Botta who is only 23 years old. This means that in recent years we have worked well, starting from when I was technical director of the youth teams, bringing Vito, Simone and Roberto to the European title. The research and training of talents must not be interrupted, nothing comes by chance “.

Older women are among the most susceptible to developing UTIs, an infection of the bladder and urethra that causes urinary urgency and pain. UTIs also can cause delirium in older people, resulting in a sharp decline in mental abilities that triggers disoriented thinking.

?Up to one-third of elderly patients hospitalized with UTIs can experience some degree of confusion and reduced awareness of their surroundings,? said Shouri Lahiri, MD, director of the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit and Neurocritical Care Research at Cedars-Sinai and senior author of the study. ?Delirium affects millions of patients a year in the U.S., contributing to longer hospital stays, long-term cognitive problems and increased mortality. Delirium can be a tipping point from which patients never fully recover. This is well established. What is less well established is why this is happening.?

To better understand the specific biological mechanisms behind UTI-associated delirium, Lahiri and colleagues observed laboratory mice with and without UTIs in specially designed mazes. In an arena where the animals could move about freely, uninfected mice spent more time in the center of the chamber. Those with UTIs huddled in the periphery, suggesting they had higher levels of anxiety, a common symptom of delirium.

In a Y-shaped maze with three arms to explore, uninfected mice tended to explore all three arms, while mice with UTIs kept returning to the same one, suggesting a lapse in short-term memory, another feature of delirium.

The investigators also observed structural changes in the brains of mice with UTIs.

In a previous study led by Lahiri, published in February in the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology, investigators found a connection between ventilator-induced lung injury and delirium. Lahiri and colleagues theorized that in both cases this was because of the reaction of IL-6, which helps regulate immune response, to the lung injury or the UTI.

?Occasionally, when the response of IL-6 is excessive, our research indicates that there can be brain injury,? Lahiri said. ?IL-6 induces changes within the neurons that our studies connected with delirium-like behavior. This is the first time this type of structural and functional change has been demonstrated. We?ve now shown two distinct models of this connection, one non-infectious and one infectious.?

In the current study, when investigators treated some of the infected mice with antibodies that blocked the effects of IL-6, the delirium-like behavior of those animals resolved. ?Treatment with anti-IL-6 antibody in the UTI group normalized all the brain changes, both structural and functional,? Lahiri said. ?A wealth of studies have shown a link between IL-6 and delirium, but only this study and our previous study have shown that IL-6 may play a direct pathological role in delirium.?

If symptoms are treated early, he added, full recovery is possible, and the next step is to design clinical trials with anti-IL-6 antibodies as a treatment for patients with UTI-induced delirium.

?Dr. Lahiri and his team have built a research framework with implications far beyond this study,? said Nancy Sicotte, MD, chair of the Department of Neurology who holds the Women?s Guild Distinguished Chair in Neurology at Cedars-Sinai. ?Building on these efforts could improve outcomes for many of our patients.?

Lahiri believes the model he and co-investigators created could be used to study delirium in other conditions associated with increased incidence of UTI. These include those with pre-existing neurologic disorders like Alzheimer?s disease, Parkinson?s disease, stroke and multiple sclerosis where delirium can be hard to distinguish from the underlying disease but is important to treat.

?A huge population stands to benefit from these investigations,? he said. ?We?re looking to apply this model to these other systemic disease conditions and states where the brain dysfunction caused is potentially reversible.?

Topological crystals function on the basis of specific structures, the properties of which remain largely unaffected by disturbances and deviations. While in normal photonic crystals the effects needed for light manipulation are fragile and can be affected by defects in the material structure, for example, in topological photonic crystals, they are protected from this. The topological structures allow properties such as unidirectional light propagation and increased robustness for guiding photons, small particles of light ? features that are crucial for future light-based technologies.

Photonic crystals influence the propagation of electromagnetic waves with the help of an optical band gap for photons, which blocks the movement of light in certain directions. Scattering usually occurs ? some photons are reflected back, while others are reflected away. ?With topological light states that span an extended range of photonic crystals, you can prevent this. In normal optical waveguides and fibers, back reflection poses a major problem because it leads to unwanted feedback. Loss during propagation hinders large-scale integration in optical chips, in which photons are responsible for transmitting information. With the help of topological photonic crystals, novel unidirectional waveguides can be achieved that transmit light without any back reflection, even in the presence of arbitrarily large disorder,? explains Professor Thomas Zentgraf, head of the Ultrafast Nanophotonics research group at Paderborn University. The concept, which has its origins in solid-state physics, has already led to numerous applications, including robust light transmission, topological delay lines, topological lasers and quantum interference.

?It was also recently proven that topological photonic crystals based on a weak topology with a crystal dislocation in the periodic structure also exhibit these special properties and also support what are known as topologically-protected strongly spatially localised light states. When something is topologically protected, any changes in the parameters do not affect the protected properties. Localised light states are extremely useful for non-linear amplification, miniaturisation of photonic components and integration of photonic quantum chips,? adds Zentgraf. In this context, weak topological states are special states for the light that result not only from the topological band structure, but also from the formation of the crystal structure.

In a joint experiment, researchers from Paderborn University and RWTH Aachen University used a special near-field optical microscope to demonstrate the existence of such strongly localised light states in topological structures. ?We showed that the versatility of weak topology can produce a strongly spatially localised optical field in an intentionally induced structural dislocation,? explains Jinlong Lu, a PhD student in Zentgraf?s group and lead author of the paper. ?Our study demonstrates a viable strategy for achieving a topologically-protected, localised zero-dimensional state for light,? adds Zentgraf. With their work, the researchers have proven that near-field microscopy is a valuable tool for characterising topological structures with nanoscale resolution at optical frequencies.

The findings provide a basis for the use of strongly localised optical light states based on weak topology. Phase-change materials with a tunable refractive index could therefore also be used for the nanostructures used in the experiment to produce robust and active topological photonic elements. ?We?re now working on concepts to equip the dislocation centres in the crystal structure with special quantum emitters for single photon generation,? says Zentgraf, adding: ?These could then be used in future optical quantum computers, for which single photon generation plays an important role.?

Topological crystals function on the basis of specific structures, the properties of which remain largely unaffected by disturbances and deviations. While in normal photonic crystals the effects needed for light manipulation are fragile and can be affected by defects in the material structure, for example, in topological photonic crystals, they are protected from this. The topological structures allow properties such as unidirectional light propagation and increased robustness for guiding photons, small particles of light ? features that are crucial for future light-based technologies.

It is the first scare of the season, the first real risk of a Covid outbreak in an NBA team. Charlotte found she has 4 positive players all together: LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee and Jalen McDaniels. And the alarm went off, the first of 2021-22.

The procedure

?

The positive swabs for the 4 Hornets players arrived in the American morning on Saturday. Ball and the others were immediately placed in solitary confinement: they will stay there for 10 days, or until they can produce two negative swabs within 24 hours of each other. The real alarm went off for everyone else: the players were training and were immediately sent home waiting to be subjected to new tampons, as were the coaches and all the staff. The facility was closed pending sanitation. Charlotte operates as a fully vaccinated team: it means that all the players, including the 4 finished in the health protocol, have undergone two doses of the vaccine. And so the coaches, the technical staff and all the staff in daily contact with the athletes, from the warehouse workers to the press officers.

the next steps

?

The Hornets returned to Charlotte in the early hours of Thursday, after losing their third straight game in Milwaukee on Wednesday in a season in which Borrego’s side are among the stars of the Eastern Conference. Tomorrow they will play the last of 4 consecutive away games in Atlanta, but given the 4 days of rest the team had returned to Queen City. The game with the Hawks for now is not at risk: to be able to play it, the Hornets need at least 8 healthy players to be able to send on the field. But the four positivity at the same time triggered the alarm: only Philadelphia this season had had 4 players all together in the protocol (Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle and Isaiah Joe), but they had entered at different times, without making trigger the outbreak alarm that is ringing in Charlotte instead.

protocol and vaccines

?

The NBA has followed its “health and safety protocol” to the letter since the recovery in the Orlando bubble. But he changed it at the beginning of 2021-22, differentiating between vaccinated players (96% of the total) and not. The vaccinated are not tested daily as is the case with the unvaccinated (who have to undergo daily swabs and two on match days) and have no restrictions other than those dictated by the common sense of pandemic prevention for what they can do both at home and away, where the unvaccinated are still neighbors in the hotel, as in 2020-21, except to go to train and play. The protocol is about to change again: NBA and the players association have started a vaccination campaign for the third dose and by the end of the month they should launch a protocol that removes the restrictions only for those who have received the three doses of the vaccine. In recent days, the league has also increased checks for vaccinated people, to try to avoid outbreaks after Thanksgiving, which in the US tradition is the one to spend with the family: from 24 November all players are tested daily for Covid. An increase that has led to the discovery of at least 10 cases in the last 3 days, including the LeBron James false positive. And including the 4 Charlotte players who triggered the first alarm of 2021-22.

The Energy Standards of Benedetta Pilato conquered the third Isl, the World Swimming Championships. For the sixteen year old runner, an unprecedented record: after three seasons of this short course team format show, she becomes the first Italian to triumph. A year ago it had come close, but in Budapest the Cali Condors of Caeleb Dressel (mvp) and Lilly King had finally won the trophy. This time, in the Eindhoven Finals, the rematch is complete. Benny, a sixteen year old from Taranto, contributed in this last stage with the third place in the 50 breaststroke yesterday and the seventh of tonight in the 100. But he had also contributed to the regular season races held in Naples. The team led by James Gibson tames the Cali Condors holders 534 to 522 by just 22 points, thirds the London Roara 393.5, fourths the Los Angeles Current 305.5. Isl returns to the masters of Isl 2019, and mvp returns Sarah Sjostrom.

Che Haughey

?

The last night in this summary. It is the last show, at the last point, in Eindhoven: decisive to win the third Isl, the World Championships in short course swimming. Like an Olympic final, the 100 sl of the ISL: with Siobhan Haughey who in 50 “79 improves his personal by 50” 94 and beats the world record holder Sarah Sjostrom, curiously teammate in the Energy Standard, surrendered in 51 “26 but more fast of the Olympic champion Emma McKeon, the Australian of the London Roar, from 51 ?57. The Swede will make up for it against Beata Nelson in 57 ?46: for the American of the American Condors, record in 57? 72. Sarah finally surrenders for a cent to Kelsi Dahlia, record holder of the 100, from 24 ?86. In the 100 medley, he alternates thrilling specialties from 25 meters. The Japanese Morimoto beats the Olympian Chad Le Clos in the 200 butterfly, in which among women Hali Flickinger touches the ISL record of 2’03 “12 and touches in 2’03” 73, leaving behind 1 “99 the Canadian Katerine Savard and the Danish Rosendahl at 2 ?48; fourth place for the blue Ilaria Bianchi from 2’07 ?55. Super victory of the Russian Rylov in the 100 backstroke in 48 “94 against the world record holder in short course, Coleman Stewart (he succeeded in Naples) author of 4913, and on the king of Rio, the American of Los Angeles, Ryan Murphy from 49” 87. Dressel shot in the 100 medley: for 88 cents (50 ?74) he says no to the Russian Kolesnikov. After a very tense race, the 100 breaststroke belonged to Lilly King in 1’03 “75. Benny Pilato is third at 50 (30 ?59) but struggles in the last lap but is seventh. With the third time in history and the American record of 55 ?56, Nic Fink wins the men’s 100 breaststroke over the Belarusian Shymanovich by just three cents and makes the provisional overtaking of the Condors. Haughey was expected to set the world record in the 200 sl (she is Sjostrom’s at 1’50 “43 in 2017), having already dropped to 1’50” 65: but she remains the second ever and touches in 1’51 “04 after having tacked at 100 meters in 54 ?46 just a cent above the Swedish record. A very heavy victory, however, which leaves the emerging British Freya Andersson 2 seconds flat. The mixed men-women relay helps the Energy Standards, Hali Flickinger responds in the 400 medley, which see Sara Franceschi returning from the virus. By Duncan Scott, British of the Roar the last real victory of this third edition of the ISL in the 400 medley before the skin-race of truth. An immense Caeleb Dressel in the dolphin skin race is not enough to overturn the final verdict.

The Beaver Creek descent is dominated by Aleksander Kilde, already winner of yesterday’s super-G and today the fastest in 1’39 “63, ahead of Mayer (at 66/100) Beat Feuz (at 1” 01). But it is the day of the return of the Italjet: Matteo Marsaglia – started with the bib n. 28 – he is fourth at 1 “20 in front of Dominik Paris (at 1” 23) and in the 15 there is also a found Innerhofer, at 1 “55 from the Norwegian.

Italjet is back

?

And after a weekend start without peaks, on one of the classic slopes of the World Cup, one of the most prestigious, Italy is there. The surprise is Matteo Marsaglia, fourth at 1 ?20 from Kilde after having never gone beyond 15th place in the last 20 World Cup races. But on the track where he had imposed himself in the super-G in 2012, the blue was rekindled, as did Paris, at the end fifth at 1 ?23 after a mistake in the central section that he least loves. And signs of recovery come from Christof Innerhofer. Here he won the descent in 2012 and despite a mistake that slowed him down in the final Inner comes back to the top 10 (14th at 1 ?55). Out of 30 Mattia Casse (at 2 ?72), Emanuele Buzzi (at 2? 81), Guglielmo Bosca (3 ?00) and Nicolò Molteni (at 3? 29). “I am really happy with this result – said Marsaglia, 36, one of the veterans of the Italian team -. I had been skiing well for three days and today I wanted to make a difference in the most difficult and technical section. Being one step away from a podium of super champions makes me feel even better, and being ahead of Paris, which we all know what it’s worth, makes me proud of my result. It is a track that I like and I hope to ski like this on Sunday as well: I will do my part, then we will see what the others will do “. Dominik Paris is also satisfied. ?Downhill is better – he explained to Fisi – and today, overall, the day went better than the past two days. But now I want to improve even more ?.

Kilde’s domain

?

After the success of Lake Louise, Matthias Mayer seemed ready to double on the Birds of Prey, but Kilde – started with the bib n. 19 – messed up the plans. It is the third downhill success for the Norwegian who had previously won only in Val Gardena (2018 and 2020) and is back on track this season after the right knee injury that knocked him out last January. The winner of the 2019/20 World Cup was irresistible especially in the final, when he trimmed the Austrian by 4 tenths of a second.

On a day in which Marco Odermatt, the World Cup leader, did not shine (11th at 1 ?65), Kilde approaches the top. Now the Swiss leads with 354 points ahead of Mayer (310) and Kilde (229).

Jansrud stop

?

The certainty will come after the exams in Norway, but the fall of Kjetil Jansrud risks ending the career of the 36-year-old Olympic super-G champion in Sochi 2014 in advance. The first investigations speak of an injury to the cruciate and collateral left knee. ?This victory is for him – said Kilde -, we will all have to applaud him for how he proved to be great after the crash: he went down to the finish line. He is a hero ?.

Tomorrow at 20 we repeat with another descent.
